I hope everyone is doing okay.
Wow! I didn’t ask for one, and I got an apology unexpectedly. I only separated myself from the energy, continued working, went silent because I had to make my point that I would not continue doing other’s tasks as I did voluntarily and I was the one who was “jumped” for being nice. I’ve never heard such a thing happen to anyone less experience it myself. I put these people on notice and that was the end on my end on this topic. (Blog 4/9/26 & 4/14/26)
Today “PEI” spoke to me about the incident a couple weeks ago. She asked me to explain my work, my finance file to her. I sent her a copy of all the files that were reported to the sponsor. I spent about thirty minutes of training her and she didn’t understand them. I told her to take the time to study the files when she was calm. All the formulas are there and show where the numbers came from. She then opened up the topic of her telling others to come talk to me and ask for help. She didn’t understand what was wrong or what she did wrong because we’re a team?! I almost spit out my coffee. She was concerned and her eyes were watery. She mentioned her boss was so mad at her. My respond, “I think you both have misunderstood the message. One, we’re not mad. Two, you can’t freely take it upon yourself to share with others to come to me for help because you’re not a finance person. I am not assigned to your projects, you don’t know what my workload is and whether I’m really free or busy, this is your responsibility. You didn’t come to me and ask for help. You just told others to come to me, and you wrote it in an email. This is your project and you are the finance person assigned to this project. Otherwise, why would you apply and accept a finance role if you are not ready for it? I don’t think you would agree that I did that to you or would it be okay with you? I’m on a different team. I have $50M dollar projects on my own with 200 staff and you are a 3-person team with only $15M. I’m doing the job of 3 staff you tell me if this is okay?” “PEI” gave me a hug. I didn’t expect it. She apologized again and I just walked away.
I don’t trust her and probably will not for a long time. I buried it though because it’s not something I want to carry with me. She’s not reliable and I’m sure she will try to punt other tasks to me later and all has been forgotten, so I’ll just keep an eye out. I just rather keep my distance. All the Best!
