Difficult conversations – 4/2/26

I hope everyone is doing okay.

Having difficult conversations has become a regular thing for me. I learned to speak up for myself, but it’s ignored. At least I said it and I can move on. I’m being asked to make decisions and communicate those to the MD’s and certain things that should happen and who can be on the projects they work on. I told my boss that’s more pressure on me and not in my scope of work to tell MD’s to add or remove administrative support. These are conversations that should take place between them at a higher level rank. They can hash it out. I just work here and also not defend something that cannot be justified.

Why should I support them anyway? They don’t even want to recognize the many pressures they placed upon me that come with this project and still they now want to add another battle to take on because they are too uncomfortable having difficult conversations. During my talk with my boss I was as nice and professional as I could while I laid a tough talk on him. He wanted to shut me down fairly quickly and it was too late. I forced him to listen until I was done. He opened the door to the conversation without thinking ahead.

The miscommunication, the doubt, lack of support, no involvement from them, and the knowledge of research work add a lot more pressure on me and risk to rely on one person only. I have had to create a list of tasks for the Sr. Manager all because they have no clue what I do and also don’t believe me of all the tasks I have to do. They panic when I ask that one person come off the project since this person does nothing for the project becomes a problem. It should be her job to know what we all do. It’s funny there is a lot missing that a manager has been in a position for 5 years and doesn’t know what each position’s role is. After our conversation my boss said he would chat with the administrator. Well, it won’t go anywhere for sure. I took 2 aspirin for my headache as my day also ended. All the Best!

I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much pressure, my friend. You handled it professionally and stood up for yourself. Praying God gives you peace and strength through it all. 🙏
