I hope everyone is doing okay.

I received an email with the subject line, “what is the issue?” The administrator was asking what the issue is because MD “LAU” as I call her went to the head and boss of our whole department. I knew it was coming it was a matter of time, but of course the buck stops with me, no one else.

I walked into the administrator’s office and began to explain, “Well, one of the programs is in deficit, $422 thousand. The sponsor is not going to pay us back for this amount and it means that this program won’t be able to continue. I was asked to find cost savings or the department will be on the hook for it. I don’t believe the department has this sort of funds as I’ve been advised. I had to figure out how we got to this point and had to explain it to the sponsor as well. The decisions back in October 2024 have had cascading effects on where we are now. The budget forecast that was submitted was inflated when I pulled our actuals the budget did not have what was submitted to the sponsor and now had an effect on our budget shortage. I had to research and forecast costs and make the proper reductions from other sources to fund the continuation of this program.”

The administrator asked who had submitted the numbers back in October 2024 and I said “DD.” Does he know? No. Then he started to give me an explanation how he was so busy and there was this and that going on… My response, “Let the head of the department know what you feel you should. I wasn’t here and I don’t know what happened before I arrived. Whatever makes you feel better then do so. I’m a problem-solver, I embrace solutions, not problems. I can’t go to the MD and just say she has a problem. I have to come with solutions and that’s exactly what I did and will take action to resolve. There is no other option. I’m going back to work.”

I catch heat while “DD” gets to keep his job. 🙄 These are no longer mistakes. This represents lack of knowledge and experience. Insane! 🫨 All the Best!
