What does your title mean? – 7/3/25

I hope everyone is doing okay. People don’t really understand that their decisions are not always the right one. Instead of asking, they create more work for us. On Monday (blog from 7/1/25) it happened and today again of being counterproductive. People don’t see the bigger picture and don’t want me to make my own decisions, but yet they tell me I own my projects.

The young lady who holds a senior position pushed others to do the work that she already hired someone to do that specific job of HR functions. The coordinators use any account available that works and don’t know policy, budgets, and which expenses should be posted. Payroll is critical as people are working on various projects, very detailed information. I tasked the Sr. Manager’s HR person to update the effort and payroll for new hires. Then the young lady goes behind me without checking and has the coordinator update the payroll. The HR person pulls the report and sends it to me and each person’s payroll is incorrect.

This is a prime example of why I asked the HR person to enter the payroll to avoid any errors. Now, MMS as I’ll call her had to correct the payroll and it’s not just a few lines either. So, here we are, double-work and MMS pulls the payroll and I have to review it again. As a senior manager you should know everyone’s role and as a matter of fact you should be able to know how to do each person’s job in case your staff is out you can replace the staff temporarily. The operation should continue otherwise you will fall behind, proxy’s and back up is necessary.

This is from experience that a college doesn’t teach. It comes from years of holding each job. We were release at 2pm for begin enjoying Independence Day, July 4th. All the Best!

  1. Yes, it’s good to learn some of the work of colleagues, so a proxy is available in any circumstances. All the best, Edith.
