Advocating for myself – 11/12/25

I hope everyone is doing okay.

In this place you are on your own. If something isn’t working out for you then it’s tough luck. The mantra should be “You are on your own if you want to work here.” People are hesitant to support. I probably only have had about five people at one point or another that do help. It can drive one to just give up because it’s a struggle to find help at any level. There’s very few people that will go out of their way.

I had a conversation with a staff person. Through this conversation she agreed to assist and support. She too had been through and continued to this day struggle with the same thing, but wasn’t able to pinpoint anything to cause change. I knew then I became a valuable asset without even knowing was instrumental to either cause the change or bring it all down. No one else had the resources, knowledge, and I really wasn’t aware of the power I accumulated. It made sense because the Sr. Manager made a comment to me yesterday during or conversation that she probably would’ve been out of a job if not for my work.

Before I got off work today I rescinded my resignation letter with the understanding that I would not be assigned any other duties and that my position would be revisited to closely align with my role. In the afternoon the Sr. Manager sent me a PDF of my role and asked to strike out what I was not part of my role and add the duties that applied to me. I laughed because I would have to advocate for myself, but then she’s the HR person. Well, it’s on me and it’s not guaranteed that this will be accepted and/or approved by the HR central office. My boss said he would support me and do everything he could to make sure I get a new title and raise… Sure.

A helping hand is not coming my way. I’m left doing my own work if I want a raise and title change, LOL! It’s not guaranteed either. I gave the Sr. Manager a documented list and she could’ve completed the leg work on my behalf. Nope, it’s all on me. I guess I’m lucky that I’ve had HR experience in previous positions I held. All the Best!
