My turn, got it wrong – 10/06/25

I hope everyone is doing okay. We started a new project, but it’s a continuation really of our previous work on mental health, only new budget. Already the programs are spending the budget, legitimate, but not following our internal control guidelines. No one is looking out, helping me at least by informing me to be able to guide them and not duplicate work. They just do. Didn’t they learn anything from the past 9 months?

They are doing it again. Not following the rules. We talked about this and shared the reason why not pay single invoices, where’s the contract associated to it for the service, and we loose track and overspend. No effort on their part to try and understand the rules, restrictions, or compliance both internal and external from the sponsor. It’s always one-sided and taking the extra step and time to check them when it’s not my responsibility. I am now pulling reports to check them, ask the questions, review the guidelines, and make the corrections. Have to get it right.

I made an error. I say it when it happens and I own it. It’s on me. Luckily, I did on final review with the sponsor’s manager today to be sure that my accounting entries were the correct ones and she caught my error. My heart sank and had to correct my error. One long journal entry and some research to go back and review it all again to be sure I do it properly. She was very supportive and said it was okay we still have time to make the correcting entries. I told her I would make them this week and resubmit my finance report again. That’s been my journey all along of trial and error. I’m glad that we caught it anyway.

I’m looking forward to closing this part of the problem soon. As usual though the sponsor has been the only guidance and no one internal who can provide any. At least I learned something now and look out for it in the future. All the Best!
