The email “Letter of Resignation” – 11/11/24

I hope everyone is doing okay. I commuted in to work today even though I wasn’t scheduled to. This morning, I walked into the supervisor’s office and mentioned to her that I would be submitting my resignation letter. She had no emotion or response and said, “okay.” I told her I would finish the last assignment she assigned to me and would be done. She said no, she would take that over, okay. I tweaked my resignation letter and clicked send without thinking about it twice.

I had made up my mind after last week’s events that took place. I sent it to the head of the department and the supervisor. I don’t think the supervisor thought I would send it to the head of the department. An hour later the head of the department emailed me to meet later in the afternoon. (blog 11/4/24) At 1:30pm he was surprised at some of my statements I shared with him, led me to believe that he wasn’t aware of the happenings in the office about our workload. His understanding of the situation was that everything was going great, and she didn’t know what happened. Of course she’s going to say that. She conveniently forgot about my comments and concerns of working long hours that went ignored for the past 7 months. I spoke about not having any support and lack of research knowledge in the department that left me to single handedly deal with all the research workload and now she wants to add more workload to my already busy to-do list.

The supervisor thought she could control the narrative. I had a feeling she was lying to the department head. He seemed surprised to know what all I was working on with no direction, but just recently she began to have bi-weekly meetings with me. He only shared I had valid points about the workload, communication, and if I was interested in re-grouping to find a solution. I agreed with him, and he would talk to the supervisor. He seemed to want to keep me onboard. I really wanted an answer to my question – what changed? All the Best!
