I hope everyone is doing okay, especially the ones affected by Hurricane Beryl. We lost power this morning at 8:30am. There has been rain, thunder, and lightning since 5:45am. The worst is the wind, it’s blowing at about 80mph.
We don’t have a generator like the neighbors do, it powers their whole house. They learned from the last storm we recently had in June. That’s the only noise I hear now surrounding me.
It’s now 6:30pm, still no power, it’s about 77 degrees and we have the basics to get by. I hope it stays cool because normally it’s 100 degrees +. The tropical storm that was landed as a CAT 1 hurricane. I have been through many storms, and it was okay, but now I have a little one and the hubby left to work at 5pm on Sunday. The last big one we had was hurricane Harvey at a CAT 4 and stalled, rained for 6 straight days causing flood damage, my little one was 1.5 years old. I wasn’t afraid because my brother came to my rescue and then my sister and her family stayed with me due to the high flooding. I’m alone this time. I think I’m prepared to leave if I need to, but I hope that’s not the case. Reed Timmer said it would be quick and it would move in and out.
I recall the many storms and bad weather, and my dad used to calm us down by saying God was only moving his furniture around. Good thing my son loves weather and was just fascinated, and it eased my worries. He wants to be a storm chaser and soccer player. I hope he gets to be both. My son started following Reed Timmer, storm chaser and YouTuber. I began to view his weather videos, and he called it right away. Watched his videos again Saturday. I couldn’t sleep Sunday into Monday morning waiting. The storm slowed down and it wasn’t good news. It was an eerie feeling and hoping it wouldn’t get stronger. The dry air was keeping the storm from getting stronger. And then it landed, and I felt the effects as of 5:45am. It rained with high wind gusts consistently until 10:51am. I could hear the loud whistle of the wind at about 80mph. We were hoping no tornados would form. Got lucky on this one.
We’ve never had tornados and now the probability was there. We had a break until about 11:30am. Then the rain came again. The stress level rises. We flood easily, even after 30 minutes of rain and our freeway system is taken over by flooding. At 3:15pm it’s down to light rain. It was over.
I spent the afternoon cleaning the driveway from debris. There was only enough day light to clean this section. My son and I went out venturing for some food. I had a full tank of gas. As soon as we get to the main road there’s 2 gas stations with power and the lines were over a mile long and everything else is out of power. Chick-fil-a was working with a generator, but that drive-thru line was awfully long. We rushed home because I didn’t want to use my full tank on venturing for 2 meals. We ate house food, good thing we still had gas to cook. The hubby finally came home at 7pm. To be continued… All the Best!
