Coming out on Top! – 8/25/23

I hope everyone is doing okay. I had a very productive and successful day. The small progress are like victories for me because it proves to me that I have what it takes to do this job despite the challenges in front of me now and in the future. It gives me strength to keep going and master this job.

I try to be thorough in my work and research. The details is crucial in my line of work, not leaving any question unanswered. I try to understand the story behind the finances and the root cause of any overdraft. The investigators seem to place doubt until they can trust you with their project finances and budgets. This investigator has a lot of projects and you are required to know the very nitty gritty of details. Someone presented some budget numbers to him and he thought he had a whole of budget remaining for the project when he really did not. I’m fairly new so there is no reason to trust me. I have not yet been able to work with him one-on-one, but I do care enough to keep track and know what’s going on behind the scenes of his project finances. His meeting with us in not until 8/30/23. He reached out and asked for me to reconcile the particular project to find out why he still had a lot of budget remaining if he’s been working heavily on this project “X”. My reconciliation was completed a week prior due to having taken some action already. I gave him my reconciliation and he wasn’t happy about it because it wasn’t matching the external departments numbers. He asked for me to figure out the discrepancy. I would be frustrated too if I were him.

I came back to the investigator after further review and meeting with the external department to let him know my numbers were correct. The external department had not captured a couple actual and pending expenses and their numbers were not showing a complete reconciliation to date. The external department had a manual excel sheet and my reconciliation was showing all financial transactions from inception to date and all tied back to the budget. The investigator responded, “excellent work.” This was enough for me to celebrate. With hard work and stress, but it’s progress. All the Best!
